Sin Corrupts

A relationship with Jesus frees us from sin. He provides a way out. He gives us strength to say no. He encourages, supports, and comforts us. When we mess up, fail, or disobey, He still loves us. When we are not worthy, He still loves us. Don't get me wrong, sometimes the choices we make disappoint God, upset Him, or grieve His Holy Spirit, but His love remains the same.

God is the opposite of Satan. When Satan condemns, God forgives. When Satan abandons, God pursues. When Satan attacks, God heals. When Satan accuses, God loves. How incredible!

Jesus died a criminal's death, on the cross, to save us from the pain of sin. He suffered to free us from Satan's accusations. He did it so we could live a life close to Him and free of shame and guilt. He desires for us to live a fulfilling, satisfying, and whole life with Him.

Even living the Christian life, sin still takes hold of us at times. It still pushes itself into our hearts and lives. Sin corrupts. Sin entangles. Sin starts small and slow, weaving itself over the surface of our hearts and grows until we don't have control over it anymore. Like vines, overtaking a tree. God's Word warns us about this. It encourages us to run with perseverance the race marked out for us, with our eyes fixed on Jesus.

This is why we need to guard our hearts! Sin can take hold through one little, white lie, through one evil thought, or through the words of a worldly song.

Be encouraged that we don't have to let sin effect us, damage us, or corrupt us, because we have the power of Jesus Christ on our side!

"Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us," -Hebrews 12:1
