The Narrow Bridge

You have been walking day and night. You're exhausted, weary, and weak. Straight ahead you see a path, your path, that becomes a bridge. It looks straight, direct, and easy. But you begin to notice details you didn't before. Details that fill your heart and soul with fear, anxiety, and loneliness. There are no walls to this bridge, no sides. Just a few poles. It would be so easy to fall off. There are shadows of large beings on either side of you. The longer you look at this bridge, the more unstable it seems to become.

You suddenly notice another bridge! This one is huge! It's got big walls around it. Safe walls. It's even got a ceiling. There are many people already walking through this bridge. It must be the safest route! As you step towards it, you hear a voice call, "Child, enter by the narrow bridge."

You turn around and begin walking out onto the first bridge. Your mind tells you to go back, but your heart tells you to keep walking. As you are on the bridge, you realize how skewed your perception of this path was. The scenery is really quite beautiful! It looked unstable and scary, yet it is the safest place in the entire universe, because The King told you where to go and The King walks before you.

Is there an area in your life that you've decided to walk down the road that leads to destruction? Take some time to ask God where He wants you to be. If He's calling you to begin walking down the narrow road, take a leap of faith, take a step towards it. That's all He asks. Jesus meets us in our current situation, whether we are sorrowful or whether we are in oblivion. He meets us here. And He calls us closer to Him. Will you follow Him down the narrow bridge?

"Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few." -Matthew 7:13-14
